Bowen and Keaney find the net as the Sharks record their fourth straight clean sheet and extend their unbeaten run to five matches.
PORTLAND, Maine (August 8, 2026) — Corpus Christi FC made history Saturday night at Fitzpatrick Stadium, defeating Portland Hearts of Pine 2-0 to secure its first USL League One road victory while extending its shutout streak to four consecutive matches.
Following a half-hour weather delay prior to kickoff, the Sharks quickly settled into the match in front of a packed Portland crowd. Blake Bowen nearly opened the scoring in the eighth minute, breaking onto a pass from former Hearts of Pine player Paddy Langlois before goalkeeper Hunter Morse denied the forward one-on-one.
Bowen would not be denied for long, however.
In the 19th minute, Tomas Pondeca delivered a dangerous cross from the right wing that Morse managed to get a hand on, but the deflection fell directly into the path of Bowen, who tapped home the opening goal. The finish marked Bowen’s team-leading seventh goal of the season and gave Corpus Christi an early 1-0 advantage.
The Sharks carried that momentum throughout the remainder of the opening half, holding Portland without a shot on target despite the home side generating four corner kicks. Corpus Christi’s backline registered 16 clearances, seven tackles and seven interceptions before the break to take the one-goal advantage into halftime.
Team captain Paddy Langlois helped anchor the Sharks’ defensive effort with four clearances and two tackles won, doing so in his first match back in Portland after spending last season with Hearts of Pine.
“It’s always tough going back to a place where I have good memories,” said Langlois. “But it was so important to get that first win on the road, especially if we want to make finals.”
Corpus Christi would continue to threaten Portland’s defending third following the restart. Pondeca would test Morse once more in the 49th minute, delivering a strike from the left flank and forcing a two-hand save from the keeper.
The Hearts began applying sustained pressure midway through the second half, but the defensive form that carried Corpus Christi into Portland remained intact.
Portland would finally register its first shot on target in the 76th minute when Matteo Kidd found space through a pass from teammate Ollie Wright inside the penalty area, but James Talbot dropped down to make the save and keep the Hearts off the scoresheet.
With Portland continuing to push numbers forward in search of an equalizer, Corpus Christi delivered the finishing blow in the 84th minute.
Jackson Dietrich’s corner found Jack Keaney inside the penalty area, where the defender headed home his first goal of the season to double the advantage and all but seal the Sharks’ historic road victory. The assist came in Dietrich’s 100th career USL League One appearance.
“The second half was more about digging in, and then the second goal was always going to be massive,” said Keaney, reflecting on his goal that put the finishing touch on the team’s first road victory. “I’m glad we got it.”
The final whistle capped another dominant defensive showing for Corpus Christi, which has now kept four consecutive clean sheets and a league-leading eight through 20 matches. The Sharks are also unbeaten in their last five League One contests, their longest run of the season.
Following the victory, head coach Eamon Zayed expressed both relief and pride after his squad finally broke through for its first road win of the season.
“Delighted to get our first road win of the season. I felt it was coming with how we’ve been performing as of late, and it’s a great feeling to finally get it,” said Zayed. “From start to finish, I thought we saw a brilliant professional team performance tonight.”
Zayed reflected on the adversity the Sharks have faced throughout their inaugural League One campaign, pointing to a quote from NBA legend Michael Jordan that he shared with the team before the match.
“I hate losing. It’s not even a question. But I have to respect losing, because losing is a part of winning. You never just win. You’ve got to lose to win.”
“We went through a lot of suffering already this season, but we’ve come out stronger and continue to get stronger,” Zayed continued. “We learned so much from our first 10 games of the season, and that’s brought us to where we are now. We are still working towards getting stronger and better, but tonight was a huge step forward in the direction we want to go.”
With its first League One road victory finally secured, Corpus Christi will look to carry its newfound attacking spark and continued defensive form forward as the Sharks’ playoff push continues.

CCFC was established in 2017 by Dr. Kingsley Okonkwo. The club previously played in USL League Two, the nation’s leading pre-professional league, and won their first Lone Star Division title in 2024.
