James Talbot made seven saves as the Sharks withstood 28 shots to earn a valuable road point and record a third consecutive clean sheet.
BOISE, Idaho (August 1, 2026) — James Talbot and the Sharks’ backline remained in rhythm Saturday night, delivering another stellar defensive performance while withstanding 28 shot attempts to earn a crucial road point in a scoreless draw against Athletic Club Boise.
Corpus Christi FC arrived in Boise to kick off a pivotal three-match road swing, searching for its first road victory in league play.
The opening 45 minutes were a tale of two phases, with Boise controlling possession through the first 20 minutes before Corpus Christi seized momentum and held a 4-2 advantage in shots on target over the remainder of the half.
The Sharks’ most threatening chance came in the 25th minute, when forward Jake Keegan unleashed a strike from the right side of the six-yard box and forced Jonathan Kliewer into a full-stretch save.
After the break, the Sharks were forced into a more conservative approach, weathering relentless pressure from the home side while looking to strike on the counterattack.
“We knew the quality that Boise had, and we needed to weather the storm,” defender Jack Keaney said. “Once we did that, we had some great opportunities. It was really an end-to-end game, but I thought to a man we stood up and defended well.”
The defensive unit backed up Keaney’s words, keeping all 18 of Boise’s second-half attempts out of the net. Keaney would finish with a match-high seven clearances, while goalkeeper James Talbot recorded seven saves to help register the Sharks their third consecutive clean sheet.
Talbot’s finest moment came in the 85th minute when Boise forward Denys Kostyshyn fired a shot from the left corner of the penalty area, forcing Talbot into an acrobatic full-stretch to deny what appeared to be the go-ahead goal.
AC Boise generated two more shots on target in the closing stages, but Talbot answered both to cap his sixth clean sheet of the season and secure Corpus Christi’s 23rd point of the campaign.
When asked about the team’s growing defensive chemistry amid its recent string of clean sheets, James Talbot pointed to the commitment shown by the entire squad.
“It’s a credit to the boys working so hard and putting their bodies on the line,” said Talbot. “We have a good group here, but we need to keep pushing as we aren’t near where we want to be. But together as one, we will give it our all.”
While the Sharks entered the evening searching for all three points, head coach Eamon Zayed was encouraged by his side’s defensive endurance despite settling for a draw.
“I’m really pleased with the work ethic and defensive commitment from a tactical standpoint,” said Zayed. “In the second half, Boise naturally came out at home and pushed, but we also looked dangerous ourselves in transition. We didn’t come here for just a point, but I’m really pleased with the clean sheet and overall team performance. We just lacked that killer instinct in front of goal away from home where it’s even more important to take those opportunities when they come.”
Corpus Christi now turns its attention to its next road matchup with Portland Hearts of Pine, where the Sharks will look to reignite their attack as the race for the USL League One playoffs continues.

About Corpus Christi FC
CCFC was established in 2017 by Dr. Kingsley Okonkwo. The club previously played in USL League Two, the nation’s leading pre-professional league, and won their first Lone Star Division title in 2024.
