Former USL League Two side to stick with Sharks identity as it joins professional ranks

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — Corpus Christi FC on Friday announced it is retaining its current brand and identity as it transitions from the pre-professional USL League Two to the professional USL League One ahead of the 2026 season.
Over the past several months, fans and community members were invited to vote on whether the Sharks’ name and identity should remain as the club transitions to League One. An emphatic 95% of respondents were in favor of keeping the club’s current identity — a testament to the team’s deep roots and rising pride across the Coastal Bend.
“We made a promise to let the people of Corpus Christi decide — because this is their team,” said Dr. Kingsley Okonkwo, Owner and President of Corpus Christi FC. “This vote wasn’t just about a name — it was about identity, tradition and ownership. With a 95% vote to keep the Sharks, the message is clear: Corpus Christi believes in this club, and we’re ready to take the next step together.”
Founded in 2017, CCFC kicked off its inaugural season in USL League Two in 2018. The Sharks spent seven seasons in USL League Two, qualifying for the USL League Two Playoffs in 2021 and 2024, and participating in the U.S. Open Cup for the first time in 2025. Since its inception, Corpus Christi has compiled a record of 56-31-18 across all competitions.
